Explosively Funny; Killing Gunther Review

Killing Gunther Review

Marking the directorial debut of actor Taran Killam (Saturday Night Live) Killing Gunther sees a group of hapless assassins trying to kill the world’s deadliest hitman, Gunther, who manages to keep ahead of them every step of the way.

Taran Killam who wrote, directed and starred in the movie plays Blake an elite contract killer. Blake hires a camera crew to document his mission of tracking down the world’s most skilled assassin and kill him. Blake recruits a team of assassins in the hope of tracking down Gunther (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and finishing him off once and for good.

This mockumentary had me in stitches throughout. Everything that could go wrong does and not only is it fun watching it from a documentary perspective but the way in which numerous action movies are spoofed is done to perfection.

Cobie Smulders stars as retired hit lady Lisa, the ex-girlfriend of both Blake and Gunther. One of the reasons why this personal vendetta against Gunter means so much to Blake.

Killing Gunther Review

Some great narrative, snappy editing and genuine moments of mind-blowing action make Killing Gunther an enjoyable affair. My favourite scene is the fight sequence between Blake and Gunther towards the end of the film. Whoever cut those sequences together using the documentary hand-hand cameras is a genius. The way the cameras capture the action yet still remain believable objects surrounding the sequence is a sight to behold.

Critics have been rather negative towards this flick and all I can say is, thank god I’m not a critic! You MUST stay for the closing credits. You won’t regret it!
